Today we rolled up our sleeves and had a go at an American style light beer with a few local ingredients. We wanted the Panhandle to set itself apart from other typical light lagers and ales so we looked to the native fermentables around us. Tupelo honey can only be found around the Wewa surroundings so we decided it had a place in this concoction. We expect this beer to be a staple of the Heartache so we will not divulge the rest of its secrets other than we import Belgian candy sugar too. Lawnmower beer, island beer, summer beer, whatever... this is one heartache that will have you begging for another... Look to grab a few pints soon because a big portion of the batch will be heading to FWB for mania excursions and the "Tebow Traveler" debut.
A bit of trivia for the followers: Tupelo honey is the only honey that will not crystallize? True or False?
Cheers!

"The Panhandle" will be otherwise be known as "Ulee's Gold". I've got a recipe with 3 lbs tupelo and belgian candi dubbed "Summer Gold Ale" 8.3% ABV and fantastic! I would like to hear/taste how it comes out.
Sure wish I could have tried some! Maybe next time?
